What are the major parts or aesthetic foundations of the tradition? (5 main points)
- Nature and Landscape photography is high quality scenery. It is scenery with natural appearing landscapes and it usually has enhancements of color. Color is extremely important in nature and landscape photography. It is important because of depth and the vast expression it shows. Color is a huge part of this tradition. Color creates this sense of warmth or confinement. The colors also make a photograph interesting and appealing to the eye. Depth is very important in landscape photography; it creates this endless expression and makes the viewer look deeper into the photography. Most landscape photography is distinctive and unique.
- People value highly scenic landscapes. Preferences are important within any type of photography. Research indicates that people value the more visually attractive and natural appealing landscapes rather than a very edited and unnatural landscape photograph (Rodriguez, 2012). Landscape photography contributes to this sense of place. Two different photographers can take a picture of the same exact setting but can make the pictures look completely different with any design work. The more natural photograph will always be more appealing to the human eye in any case.
- Landscape character can be defined and managed. This means that all landscapes have definable landscape character attributes. There are so many different landscape settings and each one has value, especially to a photographer. Landscapes that contain diversity and harmony have the greatest potential for high scenic value from a viewer. Scenic attractiveness is important to mostly landscape photographers because it is all about the beauty of nature and how it is captured in an image (Rodriguez, 2012). Scenic attractiveness is defined by a human’s perspective of the beauty that can be scene in nature or any setting (Rodriguez, 2012). Nature is one of the purist forms of beauty and that is why it creates this scenic attractiveness.
- Looking at 3 different forms of Landscape Photography you see that each of the artworks are appealing to the human eye. This is because a photographer’s main focus is to catch the viewer’s eye. Beauty and scenic attractiveness is what catches someone’s eye. Sometimes the simplest attractions are the most appealing which is very interesting.
- Landscape photography has been one of the biggest forms of photography for a few decades (Rodriguez, 2012). It is often forgotten because many people find very edited photos more interesting in our society now. But, a very important aspect of landscape photography is the fact that natural events may affect scenic landscape and general human activities do not (Rodriguez, 2012). Scenic landscape may be altered whether it is temporarily or permanently. Usually scenic landscape is affected by natural disasters but sometimes the beauty is created or defined from events like a natural disaster (Rodriguez, 2012). In most cases, human activities do not modify a landscape and will not change the beauty of the scenery (Rodriguez, 2012). Most importantly, landscape photography is all about the beauty and the layout of the photograph.
